Guide to the 43rd District Endorsement Process

Guide to the 43rd District Endorsement Process

Primary Election

2009

How do candidates get our endorsement?

1) Fill out the King County Democratic Central Committee questionnaire thereby confirming membership in the Democratic Party (questionnaire available online at www.kcdems.org)

2) Confirm attendance at our June 16th meeting (email julianfwheeler@aol.com)

3) Prepare a one-minute speech or prepare a proxy to deliver a one-minute speech

What is the meeting process?

1) Each candidate who has complied with our three requirements will be automatically considered for endorsement – no nominations or seconds are necessary

2) Each candidate will have roughly one minute to give a speech – proxies are allowed

3) Following each race the members will vote in a written ballot

Note: The 43rd District Treasurer will read each candidates contributions/membership to the District

What are the voting requirements?

1) Every member and precinct committee officer of the district has the right to vote

2) Any candidate receiving 60% approval from the votes cast in their race – this includes votes cast for “no endorsement” – will receive an endorsement

3) If no single candidate receives 60% approval, then any candidate receiving at least 40% approval will be re-considered for an endorsement

Note: Members must be members for at least ten days prior to the endorsements meeting in order to vote in the endorsements meeting

What are the advantages of an endorsement?

1) Our members will carry a sample ballot with the names of each candidate we support

2) Our newsletter, website and email lists are used to promote our endorsed candidates

3) Candidates can use our endorsement in their literature to promote themselves as Democrats
